Welcome to the Puxico Public Library Website!
Puxico Library is the only log cabin library in use in the state of Missouri. It was founded in 1937 and is currently still in use.
Founded in 1937 on just a few bookshelves in Harry White drugstore, Puxico Public Library is the only log cabin library in the state of Missouri. The logs are cypress from the nearby Mingo National Wildlife Refuge area. Originally funded by the Works Progress Association during WWII, which commissioned the building currently in use. It began as Mingo Wildlife Refuge Headquarters.
The building has served as a school, before school consolidation, as city hall, and currently a library. The building has expanded, thanks to the Norman Harty family and is currently a 2 level, 5,200 square foot library. We have a children's room, computers for public access, DVD's, and books to use by our registered patrons.
