Donation Items

Question: How can I donate items to the library?

Please take note:

We really do mean "Donation Items", the Puxico Public Library WILL NOT PAY for these items. We will not accept any items if we have to pay for them, as our funding for obtaining some of these items, is VERY limited. Please check with City Hall and its City Board of Alderman if you have any questions regarding our funding.

Donations Policy:

The Puxico Public Library will accept any books, video, audio, resource and study materials. The items must be in, at least, acceptable condition or better. The staff will review each item before its integration into the library catalogue.

We will also accept library appropriate furniture (ex: shelving, library desks, tables and chairs), toys for the children's section, craft items and so many more. Please check with the library director before delivery of big items, as helper staff and space are not readily available. DO NOT LEAVE ITEMS OUTSIDE OUR BUILDING! CALL OR MESSAGE US BEFOREHAND!

Donation Item Processing Policy:

For Books, Audio, and Video:

If any item donated is already in our catalogue, the donated items condition will be evaluated and compared to our current item. If the donation items condition is better than our current item in the catalogue, it will be swapped out and the old item will be donated elsewhere. However, If the evaluated condition of the donation item isn't better than what we already have, the donation item will be donated elsewhere.

Items that do not meet the requirements:

  1. Items exposed to extended periods of moisture. (moisture damage) (mold risk)

      • Some items CAN be replaced or substituted in a collection, check with the on duty Librarian, if you are unsure

Some items may be patched or repaired:

  1. Detachment of the text block with the book cover still present
    • Don't just donate the text block without its original cover! It will be used for crafts that require book pages.
  2. Light markings by pencil or light crayon on pages (erasable)
  3. Light scratches on the CD, DVD and Blu-ray media
  4. Loose pages within a book, with the text still intact.

Items that do not meet the requirements but are still in good or acceptable shape, are donated to places in our area or used in crafts that require it.

WE DONT THROW AWAY ITEMS THAT ARE STILL USEFULL!

Items that WILL be discarded are items that were severely waterlogged or have EXTENSIVE mold damage or any major damage to its text block that prevents reuse.
